Insurance & Claims
Will my insurance cover roof replacement?
Depends on the cause. Storm-caused damage (hail, wind, fallen tree) is usually covered; gradual wear and pre-existing damage is usually not. We document the damage in the format your carrier expects so the claim has its best shot, but we don’t speak for your carrier or guarantee approval.
What’s the difference between cosmetic and functional hail damage?
Cosmetic damage looks bad but doesn’t affect the roof’s ability to keep water out. Functional damage (bruised mat, crushed granules, lifted seals) shortens the roof’s life and is usually claimable. Most carriers cover functional damage and exclude cosmetic — we document the difference in our reports.
Do you meet with adjusters?
Yes. We’re on the roof with your adjuster during the inspection, which usually leads to a more accurate scope of damage. This is a normal part of how we handle claim work and there’s no separate charge for it.
Will my premium go up if I file a claim?
That’s between you and your carrier. We document what’s there. The decision to file is yours.
What if my claim is denied?
If we think damage was missed or under-scoped, we can file a supplemental with additional documentation. Outright denials based on policy exclusions are different and may require a public adjuster or attorney.
Pricing & Estimates
Are inspections and estimates really free?
Yes — and you keep the written report whether you hire us or not.
What’s a ballpark for full roof replacement in Huntsville?
For a typical single-family asphalt-shingle replacement in the Huntsville area, expect somewhere in the $9,000-$18,000 range depending on size, pitch, and what we find under the old shingles. Metal runs roughly 2-3× asphalt. We give a written estimate good for 30 days at no charge.
Do you charge for emergency tarping?
Emergency tarping is included with any storm-damage repair work we eventually complete. If we tarp and you have someone else do the repair, we bill for the tarp visit at a flat rate (quoted upfront).
Do you require a deposit?
For repair work, no — billed at completion. For full replacements, we typically take a deposit of 30-50% at materials delivery, balance at completion.
What payment methods do you accept?
Check, cash, all major credit cards, ACH transfer. Financing through third-party lenders available on replacements.
Materials & Warranties
Asphalt or metal — what’s better for North Alabama?
Asphalt is fine for most homes and what most of our replacements are. Metal makes sense if you plan to stay 20+ years, have a steeper-pitched roof, or want the look. We don’t push one over the other — we quote both and let you decide.
What manufacturer warranties do you offer?
Standard 25-30 years on architectural asphalt. 40-50 years on standing-seam metal. Extended (“lifetime”) manufacturer warranties available on premium shingle lines for an upcharge.
What does your workmanship warranty cover?
Our written workmanship warranty covers install errors — leaks at flashings or transitions we installed, shingle blow-off below rated wind speed, that kind of thing. It does not cover damage from storms, falling tree limbs, or wear past the manufacturer warranty period.
How long should an asphalt roof last in Huntsville?
25-30 years with proper ventilation and no major storm damage. North Alabama’s heat, humidity, and storm cycle is harder on shingles than the manufacturer-warranty average — most asphalt roofs here last 18-25 in real-world conditions.
What is FORTIFIED and should I do it?
FORTIFIED is a building standard from IBHS that significantly reduces storm damage risk. Alabama law requires insurance carriers to offer a discount on FORTIFIED-certified homes — usually 20-35% off the wind-premium portion. For most Huntsville homeowners doing a full replacement, FORTIFIED Bronze or Silver pays back in 2-4 years through insurance savings. See our FORTIFIED page for the full breakdown.
Storm Damage & Emergency
What should I do right after storm damage?
1) Call your insurance carrier and start a claim. 2) Take ground-level photos of any visible damage and any damage inside the house. 3) Call us for a roof inspection and damage documentation. 4) If there’s active water intrusion, call our 24/7 line for emergency tarping. Don’t go on the roof yourself.
Do you actually answer 24/7?
Yes. Our 24/7 emergency line connects you to a real person — not a recording — for active water-intrusion calls. Non-emergency calls are returned within 2-3 business days based on technician availability.
How fast can you tarp my roof?
For active water intrusion, typically same-day. For storm-damage tarping where there’s no active leak, within 24-48 hours.
How do I know if I have hail damage I can’t see from the ground?
You probably can’t tell from the ground. Visible signs include dented gutters, dented car hoods or AC fins, and shredded leaves in your yard. Even quarter-sized hail can crush shingle granules and shorten roof life — and most of that damage is insurance-claimable but invisible from below. Call for a free post-storm inspection.
What if water is already inside my house?
Call our 24/7 emergency line. We’ll tarp the source on the roof and stop the bleeding. Inside-the-house water damage (drywall, insulation, flooring) is a separate restoration job and usually involves your insurance — but step one is stopping more water from coming in.
Process & Timeline
How long does a roof replacement take?
1-3 working days for asphalt on a typical single-family Huntsville home. 2-5 days for metal. Weather and surprises in the decking can extend it.
Will my landscaping or driveway be damaged?
We tarp landscaping and use plywood walkways. Magnetic-sweep cleanup catches stray nails in the yard and driveway. Some incidental impact on plants directly under the eave is normal — we flag risks during the estimate.
Do I need to be home during the work?
No — but most homeowners want to be there for the start and finish. We coordinate via text and send photos of major milestones throughout the day.
What if you find more damage once you start?
We document and photograph any unexpected damage (rotten decking, structural issues, missing underlayment) and quote the additional work before doing it. No surprise charges.
What’s your response time?
Most non-emergency calls are returned within 2-3 business days based on technician availability. For active leaks or storm-damage emergencies, call our 24/7 line.
